AD. There’s no real guide to parenthood but there are 5 important life skills that we believe every child should have to set them up for the best start in life. We have teamed up with a private school in Somerset to share these with you.

Digital Skills
In 2022 there are very few processes left untouched by technology. There are so many gadgets, apps and other inventive tools that are being launched daily. Technological skills can help your child to be better prepared for the workplace and can even help them to land their very first job. You can help your child with this by exploring STEM at home.
Budgeting
Knowing how to manage money is possibly one of the most important skills that your child will need to live an independent and debt free life. Chores and allowances are great ways of doing this as they can help your child to understand the value of money and practice how to spend it wisely.
Cooking
Until we have robot chefs, cooking is something that we’ll all have to do I’m afraid. Cooking is an important life skill that helps us to eat healthily and get in all the right nutrients that our bodies need to perform at their best. Start simple by showing your child the ropes like how to cut and boil vegetables safely until they're ready to take on more.
Empathy
Empathy can help your child to be a better friend to those around them and an upstanding and moral member of society. It comes from being able to put yourself in the same boat as others and recognise distress. Things you can teach your child by working on their understanding of emotions.
Problem Solving
Problem solving is another one for developing independence. It can help your child to make wiser and more informed decisions using critical thinking skills and creativity.
Budgeting. Cooking and empathy is my top three on learning with your child 🙌🏻❤️.
My mum and dad are/was really bad with money and it made me I guess bad wit money too until I got with my partner. I always talk to my kids about how much things are and how you have to work hard to get nice things etc. i love getting them involved in cooking and empathy especially having two boys is so important for me.
I love the tech skills you’ve mentioned though! So true how we live in a very tech filled world it seems obvious to teach them all that. Great post xx
I can't wait to explore cooking with Leo! Get him baking little buns and cake. It'll be so cute. I really want him to understand about budgeting and saving, too.

I don’t have any children but I always wished my mum shared these things with me! Especially budgeting that really would’ve benefitted me when I started earning my own money haha !

I feel like budgetting really should be taught! It is so important. If schools actually accounted for this in the curriculum as well as teaching at home I think this would be amazing!
I don't have children yet, but these are definitely all things I hope to be able to teach them when I do!

I don't have children but these are the kind of skills I would teach my children if I ever have any. Especially budgeting and cooking (even though I'm not the best cook!) x

So many of these are so important and it's mad that lots of it isn't covered in school! Budgeting was something I learnt as a kid but the art of good budgeting came from life experience!
