Everyday uses of GPS trackers for families.

[AD] The perception of GPS trackers and their uses can be quite nerve wrecking. But they really don't need to be. You don't need to be in a 'breaking bad' (if you know, you know) type of situation to need a tracker. There are many, quite normal and everyday uses of GPS trackers. In collaboration with PAJ GPS I'll be taking a look at just a few of them.

1. Locating your suitcase

How many times has your suitcase been one of the last ones to come onto the carousel after landing? We've been there a few times! It's a daunting moment, questioning 'is my suitcase actually coming?' 'Did my suitcase even make it onto the plane?'

Popping a GPS tracker in your suitcase offers peace of mind. Even if it is going to be one of the last cases off the plane, at least you know it's coming.

2. Remembering where you've parked

I have a terrible memory. I'm the type of person that can watch a film twice and not clock onto the fact I've seen it before. My memory has failed me on many occasions, especially when it comes to relocating my car. I've even been stuck a few times in my local supermarket, where I'm pretty familiar with the car park.

The worst (and most embarrassing) was when my family were in the car waiting for me. I had no phone or GPS tracker. I was just wandering around the car park for what felt like an hour whilst my husband and the kids were watching me looking like a little lost puppy.

Remembering where you've parked is one of the more simple uses of GPS trackers, but I feel it's one a lot of us could do with.

3. Combatting car theft

Speaking of cars (and trying not to jinx myself) I can't not mention car theft when it comes to uses of GPS trackers. Unfortunately these types of things happen and the easiest way we can combat car theft is with a GPS tracker. By knowing where your car is you'll be able to aid the police and hopefully get your car back sooner rather than later. Car theft is never something you want to deal with, but by using a GPS tracker you'll have a much easier experience.

4. Solo adventures

Being a mum to two young children means that having time with just my husband and I is very rare. We often go on solo adventures whether it's walking the dog or going on bike rides across the moors. There are regularly times where neither of us have any real idea where the other one is. Using a GPS tracker whilst you're out offers safety as well as peace of mind.

5. Locating your child

During the summer holidays there has been a few occasions where I've mentioned to my eldest daughter how busy places are, and the importance of staying with us and keeping safe. Again, God forbid anything like this ever happens, but if your child did go missing a GPS tracker would be able to locate them really easily. Just pop one in their rucksack and you'll be able to enjoy your family day out without any worries.

If the worst happens it's also really important for your child to know your name. Unfortunately mum and dad could relate to anybody. Having them understand your name is so important when it comes to reuniting. Remembering what they're wearing is crucial too. If anything ever happens, asking 'have you seen a young boy in a navy striped tshirt and shorts?' is much more beneficial than asking 'have you seen my son?' (For example).

6. Monitoring your pets

We've had our lemon beagle Willow for seven years now and thankfully have been very lucky with her!.. Up until last month.

My husband had left to go on his bike, leaving the back door open by mistake. Willow obviously saw this as her time to strike, and she was off like a shot. Thankfully she didn't manage to get too far, but there was a full search party out looking for her. If she wore a tracker, it would have been much easier and quicker finding her.

7. Creating art

Creating artwork probably isn't the highest priority when it comes to uses of GPS trackers, but it's definitely a fun one. You could take the kids out to the park and get them to draw something using the tracker. Simply record their movements on the tracker and see what picture you're left with. i imagine it's much harder than you'd think, but it's certainly a fun family activity.
