Introducing Our Lemon Beagle Puppy - Willow (Adorably Cute Pictures Included)

AD. This week something amazing happened!… We got a lemon beagle puppy! Dan & I have wanted a dog for as long as I can remember, but because we’ve been living in a flat two storeys up we thought it’d be pretty difficult & unfair. However we’re moving house this week into very our own home with a garden. We don't need more of an excuse than that really.

My Love For Beagles

From being a little girl I’ve always wanted a beagle. There’s just something about the breed that really struck a chord with me. Maybe it’s the colouring, maybe it’s the super duper long ears, maybe it’s the naughtiness, maybe it’s all three. Who knows? But I've always had an attachment to beagles.

We put a lot of research into getting our beagle puppy & this is where we discovered the lemon beagle.

As far as I was aware beagles were black, white & tan. I had no idea a Lemon Beagle even existed, but let me tell you, my heart melt when I saw them! Still keeping the typical beagle pattern, lemon beagles have a white, caramel, tan colouring. They're beautiful and I couldn't resist!

What Is A Lemon Beagle?

A lemon beagle is simply a beagle with a lighter coat colour, usually a pale cream, off-white, or soft yellow tone combined with white. The “lemon” colouring comes from a diluted tan pigment, which means the usual rich brown markings you see on standard beagles appear much lighter and more muted.

Most lemon beagles are born very pale and may even look mostly white as puppies, with their colouring becoming slightly more defined as they grow. However, unlike tricolour beagles, they will never develop strong black markings.

Aside from their coat colour, lemon beagles are exactly the same as any other beagle. They share the same build, personality traits, scent-hound instincts, and overall breed standard. The only real difference is their unique colouring, which makes them stand out as a softer, rarer-looking variation of the breed.

Lemon Beagle Temperament

Lemon beagles have the same temperament as all beagles, which is one of the reasons the breed is so popular. They are known for being friendly, affectionate, and social dogs that generally get along well with children and other pets.

They are curious by nature and have a strong sense of smell, which means they love to explore and follow scents. This can sometimes lead to stubborn or easily distracted behaviour, especially when outdoors, so recall training is especially important from an early age.

Lemon beagles are also quite energetic and playful, particularly as puppies. They thrive in homes where they get regular exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of interaction with their family. Despite their energy, they are also known for being loving and enjoy relaxing with their owners once they’ve burned off some steam.

Overall, their temperament is loyal, gentle, and social, making them excellent companion dogs for family households.

Are Lemon Beagles Rare?

Lemon beagles are less common than traditional tricolour beagles, but they are not extremely rare. They are considered a less frequently seen colour variation rather than a separate or unusual type of beagle.

Because they are less commonly seen, lemon and white beagles often attract extra attention and curiosity, especially from people who are more familiar with the classic black, brown, and white beagle coat.

In short, they are uncommon but not rare in a genetic or breeding sense.

How We Found Our Lemon Beagle Puppy

We used pets 4 homes to search for our perfect companion. It's a really helpful and easy website to use. After a few hours of searching we found the most adorable 8 week old pup! Our beautiful lemon beagle puppy, Willow.

Choosing Our Lemon Beagle Puppy

There was only Willow & 1 of her sisters left when we went to visit. This meant it was of course absolutely heart breaking, separating and breaking them up. Luckily for us however the other pup was being collected a couple of hours later, making the situation that little bit easier.

Living With A New Puppy

We’ve had Willow for three days now & even though she’s been a little bit cheeky, she’s been unbelievably good! She seems to have settled really well and has almost (barring the sofa) differentiated between what’s hers & what’s ours in the home. 

Toilet Training Our Lemon Beagle Puppy

We’ve gone straight in with toilet training because it’s something we thought would take a really long time for her to master, plus we didn’t really know how to do it. Eeek! Surprisingly however, she’s picking it up rather quickly! We recommend checking out the dog training courses by DogAcademy.org - they're a lifesaver! We’ve given her a specific toilet area, with newspaper down on the floor & she’s really taken to it. She’s still having a few accidents, every now and again, but what she’s learnt so far is amazing, we’re really impressed with her. 

We’ve found out after bringing her home, that beagle’s are supposedly renowned for being quick learners so I think we’ve got a good’un!

Puppy Immunisations

Willow hasn’t had her full injections yet, so we can’t properly take her out unfortunately. We’re hoping to get booked in at the vets this week so she can have both sets of injections & then start going for walks. All in all, it’ll be another 4 weeks before she can go outside properly which feels like ages away at the moment – Hopefully it won’t take too long!

Sleep

At the moment Willow is really snuggly. I think she’s used to having her brothers & sisters around to cuddle into! Once she gets cosy, she can literally sleep for 80% of the day & loves snuggling into cushions, throws & pillows which is the most adorable thing! She looks ridiculously cute with her long white ears flopping down over her eyes!

I could just eat her!! She’s so bloody beautiful.

Looking forward to life with a puppy.

I'm beyond excited to have Willow in our lives now. I'm sure there'll be plenty of difficult moments along the way, but I'm really excited to watch her grow and develop. I also can't wait to see how her lemon beagle markings will come out, the older she gets.
