AD. Motherhood is one of the most rewarding journeys, but let’s be honest, it’s a wild ride! As mums, we give so much of ourselves to our families that we often forget about our own needs. That’s why this year, with mother's day coming up, I want to talk about something truly important... Self care for mums.
I’m a mum to two wonderful little girls, aged six and three, and I understand firsthand how easy it is to forget about my own needs by prioritising theirs. From the moment my alarm (sometimes human, sometimes not) goes off in the morning to the minute I collapse into bed at night, my day is filled with snack requests, school runs, argument negotiations, and thankfully a whole load of cuteness. And while I wouldn’t change it for the world, I’ve learned that self care for mother's day (and beyond!) is essential for my own well-being.

Why Mums Need to Prioritise Self Care
As mothers, we put everyone else’s needs before our own. That's what makes us good mums, right? But the truth is, when we neglect ourselves, we’re not showing up as the best versions of ourselves for our children.
Self care isn’t selfish, it’s crucial. Taking even just a small amount of time for yourself can lead to improved mental health, better patience, and a greater sense of personal identity outside of motherhood.
Reconnecting with Yourself Beyond Being ‘Mum’
Before kids, I had hobbies. I read books that weren’t bedtime stories. I went hiking without having to stop every two minutes to look at an interesting rock. And I had a skincare routine that didn’t involve hurriedly slapping on moisturiser in between brushing tiny teeth.
If you’re anything like me, you might have lost a little bit of yourself in the day to day chaos of motherhood. Mother's day is the perfect time to start reclaiming ‘me time’. That might mean scheduling a solo coffee date, picking up an old hobby, or simply spending an hour doing something that brings you joy without interruptions.
The Power of Comfort with British Boxers
One of the simplest yet most effective ways I'll practice self care for mums this mother's day is by indulging in pure, unadulterated comfort with British Boxers, a UK-based brand that understands the magic of luxurious loungewear.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m at home, I want to feel cosy, relaxed, and wrapped in warmth. British Boxers creates high quality sleepwear and loungewear using premium fabrics like brushed cotton and linen, designed to make you feel amazing... And that's just what they do!

Introducing British Boxers
Founded by Deborah Price, British Boxers was born in honour of her great, great, great grandfather, Jem Mace - The first World Heavyweight Boxing Champion.
Deborah originally worked as a fashion buyer for many years in London, however always knew her passion lay in creating her own products. She wanted to create a brand that offered Great British design, comfort and luxury. She elaborates on the idea of 'the simple things' such as nightwear, loungewear and underwear, by using impeccable materials, classic tailoring and expert manufacturing.
Mirroring her three times great grandfather's fight (and rise to the top) she left her job with £4,000 in the bank to set up British Boxers. Fast Forward to today and they can now be found in John Lewis, Joules, Harrods and many other independent department stores. They also produce private label collections for shops on London’s exclusive Jeremy Street, Marylebone High Street and Kensington High Street.
Brushed Cotton Edinburgh Check Set
I'm a sucker for tartan. There's something about it that screams cosy nights in with a movie and a hot chocolate. Something I'm all for, even in the warmer months of spring!
I really liked the colouring in this print. The warmness of the yellow, mixed with the cooler blues and greens really makes me happy. And I'm even happier wearing them! The brushed cotton is super soft and not to sound like Goldilocks, but I'm neither too warm nor too cold wearing them. I really love the tie waist on the trousers. And they have pockets! I repeat, they have pockets! The rounded collar gives that put together look you get from a traditional PJ set, with a more comfortable and cosy feel to it. Relaxing never felt so good! And the British Boxers dressing gown provides classic luxury. It's quite lightweight so perfect for this time of year where the temperatures are starting to rise (thankfully).
British Boxers Alpaca Bed Socks
I'm big on bed socks. I don't actually wear them for bed. There's something in me that just can't do it. But when I get out of the bath, or if I want a cosy quiet night in, bed socks are a must! And these are simply divine! These exquisite socks are made in made in England using the softest alpaca wool. Which I can totally vouch for - They're ridiculously soft! Such a treat for the feet.
This Mother’s Day, why not treat yourself to something that makes you feel good? A beautifully crafted pair of pyjamas, fancy socks or a luxurious robe from British Boxers is the kind of self-care investment that pays off. Because let’s face it, if we’re going to spend half our lives in loungewear, it might as well be the best!

Making Self-Care a Daily Habit
The key to real self care isn’t just celebrating it on one day of the year, it’s about weaving it into our everyday lives. Even the smallest changes can have a huge impact.
- Set Boundaries: It’s okay to say no to things that drain your energy.
- Ask for Help: You don’t have to do it all alone. Delegate, share responsibilities, and let others step in.
- Practice Mindfulness: Take a few minutes each day to breathe, stretch, or just be present in the moment.
- Indulge in Simple Pleasures: A hot cup of tea, a cosy blanket, and some quiet time can work wonders.
Mother's Day Self Care Checklist
If you’re struggling to think of ways to prioritise yourself, here’s a simple checklist to help you carve out some well deserved 'me time' this Mother’s Day:
- Enjoy a guilt-free lie-in (or at least an extra 30 minutes in bed!)
- Treat yourself to a luxurious set of British Boxers pyjamas or loungewear.
- Take a long, uninterrupted bath with your favourite book or music
- Get outside for a peaceful walk, alone if possible!
- Book yourself a pampering session, even if it’s just an at-home face mask
- Have a no-cooking day and order your favourite meal instead
- Switch off your phone for a few hours and enjoy the present moment
- Say yes to something that brings you joy, and no to something that doesn’t.

A Mother's Day Reminder
Mum guilt is real, and it can be hard to shake. But this Mother’s Day, I encourage you to let go of that guilt and embrace the fact that you are just as important as everyone else in your family.
You deserve rest.
You deserve joy.
And you deserve to feel like you, outside of being Mum.
So, whether you take five minutes for yourself or indulge in an entire day of relaxation, I hope you give yourself the gift of mother's day self care this year. And if you’re looking for a perfect way to elevate that experience, British Boxers has got you covered, literally!
Make Self Care for Mums a Priority
This Mother’s Day, let’s start a new tradition, one that celebrates us as individuals, not just as mums. I’d love to hear how you’re planning to prioritise yourself this year!
