It’s why many schools adopt the approach that their students should be in the know on how they can protect our environment and how it can be beneficial to change our ways to support the planet. How to teach children about sustainability
1. Talk about its impact often
Bringing it into conversation enough can remind your child about the impact the environment is under. If you strike conversations often then they are more likely to remember. This impacts when it comes to putting the right rubbish in the bins, choosing the right foods to eat and other changes that benefit the environment. Even from a young age your child can pick up what you talk to them about. Developing on this when they are teenagers can solidify all that they’ve learnt thus far.
2. Get them to help out at volunteering events on sustainability
A good way to teach young people about the environment, and develop their problem solving skills, is through volunteering. Litter picking, supporting the local beaches or giving time to wildlife communities are all great examples. They help children learn about how the environment has truly changed and what animals now have to go through.
It’s a great way to get young people acquainted with the benefits of volunteering, while also developing their skills in handling themselves and providing their time to communities that need them the most.
3. Explore nature together
Even as teenagers nature can be explored together. Make time for just you and your child to develop their skills in nature and show them how things have changed. In schools this can be delivered in a number of ways. School trips and outdoor activities can help a child with their understanding of the environment in accessible ways.
