[AD*] In life, your child will face challenging situations and they will need the confidence to deal with them. Whether that be meeting and having to interact with new people or taking on new challenges. This can be defined as having faith in oneself and something that you can help your child with by allowing them opportunity to put themselves out there and learn that they are competent and capable. While it may feel uncomfortable at first, taking on small, calculated risks will help them to grow and develop into a strong and fierce person. If you would like more information on how to raise a confident child, take a look at the tips below that were shared with us by Kensington Park School.

Raising a confident child

Social situations

Social situations can be scary as you’re dealing with people that you’ve potentially never met before and you’re unaware of how they may react and respond to you. While daunting, a child can get used to the feeling and develop confidence from learning how to read body language and talk to others. None of us are really born confident and it all comes down to experience.

Build self confidence

Aside from taking the plunge, you can help your child by making them see themselves in a more positive light and understand what they bring to the table. Positive affirmations and receiving praise can help children to internalise this and become confident within themselves.

Develop optimism

There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain by putting yourself forward, even if things don’t pan out the way that you expected. Having this outlook can definitely help children with their confidence as often what holds us back is the “what if’s” that we ask ourselves. The easiest way to help your child with this is to embody the mindset and flip situations by looking out for silver linings.
