Using diet to boost fertility.

As a broad rule of thumb, it’s important to incorporate plenty of fruits and vegetables into your diet. Variety is important because this will improve the amount of nutrients you a receiving, so don’t just stick to one type. Vitamin E, for example, is important because it is found in the fluid of the follicles that house your eggs. With this in mind, try to incorporate avocados, almonds and peanuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and red bell peppers into your diet.

If you’re prone to cramping and bloating during your period, you may be tempted to reach for junk food. This won’t help improve your symptoms or chances of conceiving. Instead, try and increase the amount of iron-rich food you’re eating as this will help you feel less lethargic. Examples of foods containing iron are red meat, beans, peas, and dark green leafy vegetables like spinach. Research has found that the Mediterranean diet is a fantastic option when it comes to boosting your fertility because it is filled with nutrients and antioxidants.

It is wise to avoid fizzy drinks and alcohol, as sugary drinks can reduce fertility. Instead, drink plenty of water, as this can thin your cervical mucus which makes it easier for sperm to reach the egg when trying to conceive through sexual intercourse.

Generally speaking, the importance of a healthy diet and exercise programme should not be underestimated, particularly if you’re hoping to conceive a baby. However, it’s important to note that your diet cannot cure infertility. If you are a struggling to conceive it might be time to speak to a qualified professional.
