Brunch at The Wild Plum, Harrogate - An Honest Review

I lived every Yorkshire blogger's dream back in February 2020 with a brunch at The Wild Plum Harrogate.

If you've spent any time searching for the best brunch spots in Harrogate over the last few years, chances are you've come across The Wild Plum. Long before my visit it had built quite the reputation for beautifully presented brunch dishes, fantastic coffee and an Instagram-worthy interior, making it one of the town's most talked about independent cafes. After seeing countless photos on Instagram from fellow Yorkshire bloggers, I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about for myself.

If you're reading this because you're hoping to visit The Wild Plum in Harrogate, it's worth knowing that the cafe is currently temporarily closed while the owners search for a new premises. At the time of updating this post (July 2026), there haven't been any official announcements about when or where it will reopen, but I'll keep this page updated if that changes. Despite the temporary closure, I wanted to keep my review live because The Wild Plum was one of Harrogate's most-loved independent cafes, and my visit back in February 2020 remains one of my favourite brunch experiences in Yorkshire.

Getting to The Wild Plum Harrogate

I was forever in awe of their delicious Instagram-worthy food, however something that majorly puts me off is the accessibility. The Wild Plum is situated above Snooty Frox, an award winning boutique which sells beautiful occasion wear as well as millinery, shoes and gifts. Unfortunately the only access to The Wild Plum is via a narrow staircase which you find once meandering around the boutique on the ground floor.

As a mum to a young daughter who was still very reliant on her pram at the time, this wasn't the easiest place for us to visit as a family. While my little girl was already walking, she still needed the pushchair for longer days out, so I'd always found myself putting the visit off. Thankfully, I finally had a rare child free day and decided it was the perfect opportunity to head over to Harrogate with my sister. The only thing standing in our way was Storm Ciara, which certainly made the journey a little more adventurous than planned!

When we arrived, there was already a queue forming on the staircase while people waited for tables. Although it probably wouldn't have been ideal with a pram, we were more than happy to wait knowing what was waiting for us upstairs.

Thankfully, we were seated relatovely quickly after around a fifteen minute wait.

The staff on arrival were apologetic about the wait and welcomed us with open arms which I thought was lovely. Our specific server was so friendly, it was as if we’d known her for years, unfortunately we didn’t catch her name, but everything about the service given to us on our visit was impeccable.

The Atmosphere at The Wild Plum Harrogate

The wait was quickly forgotten as soon as we stepped inside.

The Wild Plum had such a lovely atmosphere; bright, relaxed and welcoming, with stylish decor that perfectly matched the beautiful dishes coming out of the kitchen. It felt busy without being overwhelming and had a lovely buzz about the place.

What We Had For Brunch At The Wild Plum.

My sister and I both opted for Latte’s but surprisingly differed with our breakfast options. She decided to go sweet & I went savoury.

My sister chose the sweet option of the classic waffle which consisted of a waffle with seasonal fruit, whipped cream, Nutella, maple syrup and junk food granola. It looked absolutely incredible when it came out. And if I’m honest I had that sudden pang of food envy when she was served her brunch before mine.

I on the other hand chose the full English pancake, which was made up of two pancakes sandwiched between a sausage Pattie, black pudding and a crispy fried egg. It looked incredible and my food envy soon went away when I was presented with my own plate.

Was The Food Worth The Hype?

In a word... absolutely. We finished our brunch quicker than we should have because it was just that good.

The pancakes were wonderfully light and fluffy, the sausage patty was packed with flavour, the black pudding added richness without overpowering the dish, and the runny egg brought everything together perfectly. It might sound like an unusual combination on paper, but every element worked beautifully.

One thing that really stood out to me was the quality of the ingredients. Sometimes you can instantly tell when a café takes real pride in what it serves, and that's exactly how I felt here. Everything tasted fresh, well prepared and thoughtfully put together rather than simply assembled for presentation.

It's easy to see why The Wild Plum developed such a loyal following over the years.

Was It Good Value For Money?

When I first looked at the menu, I remember thinking that £15 for brunch seemed a little expensive. After finishing my meal, I completely changed my mind. The portion size was generous, the ingredients were clearly high quality, the presentation was fantastic and the service couldn't be faulted. Looking back, I genuinely think it represented good value for the overall experience, and I'd happily have paid the same again.

Would I Recommend The Wild Plum?

Yes! We loved our visit to The Wild Plum.

Although it’s not the most child friendly of places, it wouldn’t put me off going again. I’d love to go mid afternoon next time however and try out their lunch time menu as they had some mouth watering meals on there. It's one of those cafés that completely lived up to the hype, which isn't always the case with popular Instagram spots.

While The Wild Plum is currently closed as the owners search for a new premises, I genuinely hope they find a new home in Harrogate in the future. If they do reopen, I'll certainly be making another visit.

Final Thoughts

Even several years after my visit, this remains one of my favourite brunch experiences in Harrogate.
