Decorating isn’t for the faint hearted. It can take a lot of time and patience but the satisfaction that you get at the end is more than worth it. Doing a bit of DIY where possible can save a fortune on what you would otherwise pay on labour and other related expenses. To help you we have teamed up with a timber merchant in Essex to share some essential DIY tools with you.

Essential DIY tools.
A Spirit Level
It can be hard to judge by eye whether something’s straight or not. It is only when you’ve put everything together that you’re able to spot an eyesore and by then it can be too late. The damage has already been done. A spirit level can give you a true judgement of whether something is level or needs adjusting. Simply align the bubble trapped inside of the tool and make markings. That will help you to avoid the hassle of having to undo any hard work.
Quality Paint Brushes
Brushes are things that aren’t worth skimping on. Poor brushes can lead to unsightly brush strokes, shedding hair on your walls and just an overall difficult job. To make life easier, invest in high quality brushes from the start.
A Decorators Cloth
Cloth and old bedsheets are a must when decorating. They will stop you from destroying any furniture with stubborn paint.
Masks and Goggles
Safety is key. When decorating, fumes and harmful chemicals may be used that can make their way into your airways and eyes. Using protective masks and goggles can prevent this from happening and keep you safe.
Caulk
Caulk is a seal that can help you to tie everything together and close any gaps. It can prevent water, bugs and air getting in and protect all of your hard work.
We finally have our own tool box after living off borrowing things from other people for years and it's so handy!

I like to use a spirit level when hanging up pictures, especially if it's a gallery wall x

I actually feel quite proud of myself for already having the majority of things on the list as I bought some DIY tools last year. I tend to do little DIY projects during the spur of the moment so it's handy to have things at hand, instead of asking if I can borrow XYZ from others x
