ADPR. I don't know about you, but I find dressing for this time of year incredibly awkward. It's not quite cold enough to go all out with autumn layers, but equally it's not warm enough to be parading around in the floaty dresses and sandals I've been wearing over summer. It can be really difficult finding transitional pieces that sit somewhere between the two seasons. A well fitting pair of jeans for example, or a lightweight knit perhaps? And especially for autumn 2026, a pair of clogs.

Clogs have been having something of a fashion moment in recent years. They seemed to come out of nowhere in 2024, and thankfully they're still here to stay for 2026. What I particularly like about the clog trend is that they're so easy to wear! Slipping on a pair of clogs and going about your day, couldn't be easier.

I've been preparing for upcoming autumn fashion season by adding a pair of HEYDUDE Austin Lift Clogs to my collection. Doing some forward thinking, I've put together a few different ways to style them as we make that transition from summer into autumn.

Why I'm Wearing Clogs This Autumn

Perhaps it's because I'm nearing ever closer to 40, but I'm a big fan of comfortable shoes. Shoes that I can actually get a decent amount of wear from, that don't leave my feet feeling like they've been crushed. That's a big reason clogs appealed to me.

In terms of styling too, they're casual enough for everyday outfits but can still make a simple outfit feel a little more put together. They work with jeans, trousers and dresses, and I love that you can change the whole look simply by switching up the layers and accessories around them.

Clogs are a really easy option for this time of year. There are still plenty of days when I'm not quite ready to commit to boots, but sandals feel too summery. A clog seem to fill that gap perfectly!

The HEYDUDE Austin Lift Clog

For this post I'm wearing the HEYDUDE Austin Lift Clog. A shoe which has quickly made its way to the forefront of my wardrobe!

Not only do they look great, but they're ridiculously comfortable too. I chose this particular pair of clogs as I felt the chunky platform gave them a slightly more elevated look. I really like the convertible heel strap too, so you can wear them in different ways depending on the look you're going for. The sesame colour way is perfect for this time of year too. The neutrality and warmth to the colour means they'll be super wearable and go with so many different looks.

So far, I've found them really easy to work into outfits I already own. There's nothing worse than buying a new piece of clothing and then having to buy another ten just so you have something to wear them with. And that's really what I wanted to explore with this post. How to style clogs in autumn in a wearable way without making the outfits feel too complicated or overly trend-led.

How To Style Clogs In Autumn

One of the things I like most about clogs is that you don't need to completely change the way you dress just because you've moved into autumn. Think about the clothes you already have in your wardrobe and look for ways to add a few seasonal layers. A summer dress can work with a cardigan or lightweight jacket, while your favourite jeans can instantly feel more autumnal with a chunky knit. Your footwear can make a surprisingly big difference too.

If you're wondering how to wear clogs in autumn, don't feel like you have to stick to one particular style of outfit. Clogs can work with everything from casual jeans and a jumper to dresses, wide-leg trousers and more structured pieces. It's also worth experimenting with socks as the weather gets cooler. A pair of cosy socks can completely change the look and make clogs feel much more suitable for those cooler autumn days.

For me, the key is not trying too hard. I want my clothes to feel like me, and I think the best outfits are often the ones where you can get dressed quickly, feel comfortable and still feel like you've made a bit of an effort.

Outfit 1 - School run chic

  • Barn jacket
  • Slogan tee
  • Cream barrel leg jeans

When I first started thinking about how to style clogs, I knew I had to be realistic in the outfits I was creating. Five days out of seven I'm on the school run. Admittedly some are less chic than others, but I wanted to showcase these clogs in an outfit that makes me feel good and able to handle whatever the chaotic school run morning throws at me.

Each piece in this outfit is a staple in my wardrobe. It's all relatively neutral and has the versatility of that resembling a capsule wardrobe. What I love most about this styling though is just how easy it is to throw everything on. I'm not one for making loads of effort in my appearance, especially on a busy school morning.

I love those minimum effort, maximum output type outfits. Which I think this definitely falls into. Not bad for a rushed 5 minute turnaround before dropping the kids off at school.

Outfit 2 - Leopard print is a neutral

  • Bodysuit
  • Leopard print jeans
  • Crossbody bag

Leopard print is a neutral. I said what I said! When I tell you that I've worn these trousers to death, I mean I've worn them to the absolute brink of death! I think my husband is sick of seeing me in them to be honest. But I love them, and I think they go perfectly with the HEYDUDE Austin Lift clogs. I really like how the wide leg trouser falls over the top of the clogs. Super chic!

To balance the chunkiness of the wide leg trousers and platform clogs I've popped a bodysuit on to balance everything out. I really like this look, and it's another one which is a staple for me.

This is another one of those easy breezy, relatable outfits which can be eaily updated with a chunky knit or funnel neck jacket thrown over the top

Outfit 3 - Hanging onto that last bit of summer

  • Black minidress
  • Sweater for layering
  • Sunglasses

To style the clogs a little differently I wanted top showcase them in more of a summer, warmer weather type set up. Even in September we're still getting those days where the sun surprises us so as part of my five examples on how to style clogs for autumn, I wanted to give you something a little different.

I absolutely love this Cos black minidress. I picked it up on Vinted last year on a bit of a whim (I'm usually a maxi / midi kind of gal) but I just love how it makes me feel. It's oversized, not restrictive and has those lovely little frills at the bottom to give it some interest. Styling it with the HEYDUDE clogs feels like it's even more 'me'.

Obviously in the UK the weather isn't always predictable so I've popped a sweater just over my shoulders for when the weather inevitably turns!

Outfit 4 - Bold layering

  • Thick sweater
  • White tee
  • Dark wash denim

Red is such a great colour for adding impact to an outfit. I especially love it with leopard print, but for this article I wanted to style is a little more neutrally. If I can even say that wearing a big thick red sweater.

This is obviously a big contrast from outfit four, but isn't that what the UK weather is all about!

I love how oversized everything is here. The older I've gotten the less I'm into 'flattering' clothes. An outfit like this is a staple for me. Comfy trousers, comfy top and comfy shoes!

Outfit 5 - Casual at home day

  • Oversized slogan tee
  • Black leggings
  • Socks

To finish off with something super casual and homely I wanted to showcase the HEYDUDE clogs with an outfit I wear more often that not. Sometimes it's easier to throw on a pair of black leggings and an oversized tee. And guess what?... I actually think the clogs really elevate this look. Usually I'd have a pair of sliders on, but there's something about the Austin Lift clogs that make me feel so much more put together.

Are Clogs Good for Autumn?

Yes! In fact, I think autumn might actually be the perfect season for wearing them.

They're a great middle ground between summer footwear and winter boots, particularly during those early autumn weeks when the weather can change dramatically throughout the day. You can wear them with bare ankles while it's still mild, then add socks and warmer layers as temperatures start to drop.

I also think the chunky shape of a clog works particularly well with autumn clothing. Jeans, knitwear, long skirts, dresses and relaxed tailoring all work brilliantly with the more substantial shape of the shoe.

Of course, whether they're practical for you will depend on the particular style and the weather where you live. But for everyday autumn outfits, I think clogs are a really easy addition to your wardrobe.

Can You Wear Socks with Clogs?

I feel like this is like the age old socks and sandals debate. For me, I think socks are a really easy way to make clogs work as the weather gets cooler. A simple neutral sock can keep the look understated, while a chunkier or patterned pair can become more of a feature. I think this is one of the easiest ways to take a pair of clogs from a late-summer outfit into autumn.

Are The HEYDUDE Austin Lift Clogs Comfortable for Everyday Wear?

I'm quite fussy with my footwear. I have quite a broad foot and hate for them to feel like they've been squeezed into a pair of shoes. Thankfully the HEYDUDE Austin Lift Clog has a padded topline and HEYCOMF footbed which makes them uber comfy! The lightweight sole is deceiving also as they don't have the heavy feel that you might expect from a chunky shoe.

I actually sized up in this particular clog as I tend to do with all backless shoes. I'm not sure what it is, but I think having that extra room for my feet to breathe is beneficial with this style of shoe. But that's just me and my preferences. As with any shoe, I'd always recommend checking the individual product's sizing information before ordering, particularly if you're between sizes.

Should You Be Wearing Clogs This Autumn?

Short answer... Yes!

If you're looking for a way to update your wardrobe for the new season without buying a completely new selection of clothes, I'd definitely consider giving clogs a try. They're so easy to style, I'd absolutely recommend adding a pair to your autumn wardrobe.

I hope I've helped you figure out how to style clogs for the coming season. Be sure to check out HEYDUDE and the different styles they have available.

Yes to comfortable shoes! Clogs have actually become my go-to everyday footwear too. I’m honestly so done with heels and stilettos. These days, comfort is definitely more important to me, especially when I’m on my feet all day. I also love how versatile these are. They look casual enough for everyday wear but still cute enough to pair with a dress!
