Thankfully, this can be taught easily through an array of simple steps. The main thing to keep in mind is to stay consistent and be patient. Children have their ups and downs just as adults do. It’s a major learning curve but one that they will stick with for the rest of their lives. Here are some ways to get started.

Tips for raising a compassionate child
Believe in your child
If you treat your child in a way that makes them think they’re bad, they’ll start to believe it and act upon it. Children are easily influenced so stay positive and remind your child that you assume the best in them. You’ll notice them slowly living up to the expectations.
Model it yourself.
Children learn from their surroundings and habits such as language and actions start with their parents. Speak and act in a kind manner, and make sure your child is continuously catching you doing acts of compassion. This can be holding a door open or speaking words of comfort to someone who may need it. This will lay down the foundation for a lifetime of kindness to people.
Talk to your child.
One way for your child to understand what compassion is and why it’s important is to learn and understand it. Ensure your child knows that the way they treat people is very important and should be done with the utmost care. Give them examples of situations and ask them what they think the right thing to do in each one is. Not only will this get them thinking of different ways to do the right thing but will help them understand why compassion is the best option no matter the situation.
Be patient with them.
It’s easy to want something out of your child but it takes a lot of work from both sides especially when it’s a lifelong attribute that’s being taught. Be loving and a great role model and watch them thrive.
