How to support your child

Reinforce Routine

Routine is important for children. It can help to maintain a sense of normality during difficult times and make sure that healthy habits are maintained. For example, in the lead up to an exam, your child’s sleeping and eating habits may change as they may start going to bed later in order to finish off work and eat junk food to work through their study sessions. Neither are good for their productivity and a healthy mind. Making sure that things are followed just as they were before, you can help to make sure that they perform and do their best.

Talk to Them

Talking is important. By having conversations with your child, you can find out how they are doing in school and learn about anything that’s bothering them. You can work with them to devise strategies and help them to overcome their problems. It’s also a great way for you to help them offload and manage any stress or anxiety that they may be feeling.

Resources

The resources that your child has access to can make their revision much easier. Things like colourful post it notes can help to make key points more memorable. A stopwatch or a normal clock in their study room can help when it comes to exam question practice.

I definitely don't miss exams! I think my parents pretty much left me to it, but were always on hand with snacks etc to keep me going!
