It's easy to get caught up in the mundane routine that can be mum life. The days feel long, but the weeks feel short, which is why I think it's so important to reflect upon the simple joys and small positives. If you're a regular reader of my blog I've been reflecting on the simple joys for quite some time now. So here I am again at the end of June rounding up the small positives of the month.

June's Simple Joys

My Girl Embracing Country Life

It was school holidays for us at the beginning of June. Luckily for us this also coincided with my husband's annual leave as well as my father in law being off work. With my mother in law & I being self employed it meant we had a full week together, just the six of us. During this week we had three different days out where we donned our walking boots and fully embraced country life.

My eldest can sometimes be a bit temperamental when walking. But this week she absolutely smashed it! She took those 5K hikes in her stride. I'm a firm believer that children can learn from anywhere & she developed so much in that short week. She loved getting out and about. She even went to bed asking where the next adventure was going to be the next day.

Guisborough Three Peaks Hike

Speaking of countryside living, my husband & I managed to ditch the kids for one day as we took part in the 15K Guisborough three peaks hike. It's been on the list for us to do for a while however if I'm honest, the idea of doing a 15K hike kind of scared me. We did the Yorkshire three peaks challenge a couple of years ago & my hips have never been the same since. I get to a certain distance and then they just give up. Luckily for me though, this time we got through it.

The hike was challenging in parts, but I'm so glad that we did it! It's so amazing having such lush countryside right on our doorstep.

One of my simple joys this month was walking the Guisborough three peaks. This is a photo of Highcliffe, looking over Guisborough.

Back to School

Towards the end of last term, my eldest was really struggling with nursery. There was tears most days, even leading to myself having a bit of a breakdown in front of her teachers. It wasn't a very nice time. I'm not sure of the real reason for the troubles. I'm not sure whether it was tiredness which lead to the frustrations, but everyday I was dreading dropping her off and picking her back up again.

Thankfully for us she went back to school after her week off with such a different mindset. It's almost as if the school holidays were a reset button for her. It was a reset button for all of us.

Honestly, I think all aspects of parenting is hard. But navigating dealing with a three year olds emotions when even she doesn't know how to deal with them was really blooming difficult.

My eldest daughter feeding a baby lamb.

Feeding Lambs

Being in the North Yorkshire countryside we're pretty much surrounded by sheep and baby lambs. We don't do a car journey without my eldest shouting out sheep or cow or any other form of living animal.

I'd mentioned to her in springtime that we could potentially go somewhere to feed baby lambs and although I'd forgotten about it since, my daughter definitely hadn't. This month we visited Monk Farm where all of her dreams were able to come true!

My Birthday

A couple of weeks ago I turned a big old 32. I'm truly living my best life in my thirties and I had the best weekend celebrating my birthday at Aldwark Manor Estate. We were well and truly living our best lives at one of Yorkshires most luxury hotels. We ate great food, drank lovely cocktails, indulged in the spa... And most importantly, managed to get a full nights sleep! Hallelujah!

I was well & truly treated on my birthday this year, but truth be told the only thing I really wanted was a full nights sleep!

Easily my favourite of simple joys this month was my birthday trip to Aldwark Manor Estate.

What have been your simple joys this month? Do let me know in the comments.

Aww! I'm so glad your wee one went back to school in much better head space. The poor wee mite. It can be hard for them to leave the house for the first time, and even if they've been doing it for while anxiety can develop at any time.

Long may it continue to go along the right path.

Totally get the three year old emotions. It's a minefield. I've had a day of it and not feeling great at the minute myself. Luckily, we are all sleeping a little better now we are at toddler stage, but I'm still up if she needs it. I love the nights my folks have her and I'm not responsible for anyone, haha!

We love reading your exchanges with the little trooper that is A on Instagram, so we're glad she has had a better time at school after the break. Maybe she was a little too tired? And what a little champion doing all these walks!
