AD. Being a parent isn't easy. It is a full-time job that requires a lot of different problem solving methods. When you are angry, frustrated or upset, you are not in the right headspace to make the best decision for you or your family. Finding ways to become a calmer parent will not only help you, but it will help your children too. By finding better solutions and thinking clearly, it will have a snowball effect. Over time things become easier, and your new demeanour may even rub off on your children. It's up to you how you parent, but to help, here are a few ideas on how to become calmer and happier.

How To Become A Calmer Parent
1. Understand That You Can't Control Everything
How people behave and act quite often is way beyond your control. What is in your control though, is how you react when adversity hits.
If your kids are being particularly difficult and you react by yelling, is this the best reaction? You may actually end up feeling worse and possibly pushing your children away. When those feelings of anger and annoyance arise, take a step back and observe the situation as if you were an outsider. Those few moments may be enough to stop the bubbling anger and give you the time to come up with a better solution. Use your adult experience to your advantage and outwit the kids. This will make you feel better.
2. Observe Your Children
Sometimes it may be an idea to sit quietly and watch your children interact or play as if you were analysing them objectively without emotion. By doing this, you will gain a better grasp of where your children are mentally and emotionally. They are children at the end of the day. They are meant to be a little crazy. It’s not their fault. They are learning, and you are key to their development. By understanding them better and realising it’s not you, any temper tantrums are aimed at you will better be able to guide them into adulthood.
3. Develop A Better Sleeping Routine
Yes, that mythical thing known as sleep will definitely make you feel calmer if you can get more of it. Sleep is a great de-stressor as well as giving you a clearer head.
You should try and go to bed earlier and avoid anything like tea, coffee, alcohol and anything sugary before bed. If you develop a better sleeping regime, you will feel calmer and better able to deal with an upset child.
4. Eliminate Any Unnecessary Stresses
If you can start eliminating things that trigger you and cause you stress, you will feel much better and calmer for it. Try cutting the smaller things first, like that morning coffee with a toxic friend, then build up to dealing with debts and other things. If you have concerns over citizenship for example you may need the best immigration lawyer. Whatever it is in your life that bogs you down and makes you feel restless, focus on it, and start trying to fix it.

Great post! It's so hard when you're a parent! It's so hard to stay calm. I'd love to get a sleep routine!

Oh it 100% is. I think we all have moments don't we. Sleep is SO blooming important. It took us AGES to get into a good routine & now we're there, we're having another baby. Haha! X
Love this. One of my closest friends has a little one and she is cool as a cucumber. When I'm with her and her little girl, I'm in awe of how chilled she is. Her little one is super chilled too, it must be a reflection of how she is at home

I've got a friend who's always said I'm the chillest mum ever (I'm not) but I'd like to think it's had some form of effect on Amelia. X
Brilliant tips and great insight! I love the idea of observing and seeing where you're children are at so you have a better understanding of their emotions - that's so important x
Definitely! So so important. X
