Is nursery the right choice for my child?

[AD] If you’re looking to go back to work, you may be thinking about whether to send your child to nursery. They are enriching environments for children to continue their development and give them the opportunity to socialise with other young children. Depending on your situation, you may be able to find alternative childcare arrangements like a trusted childminder or friends and family to look after your child. There is certainly no set rule to follow and is a decision that is completely up to you as school isn’t compulsory for children until they reach 5 years of age. Is nursery the right choice?

Free Childcare

Parents with varying circumstances can access free childcare. This is so that they are able to go back to work, relieving the pressure and burden of finding affordable childcare. According to the GOV.UK website, there are 30 hours of free childcare that eligible parents can access per week for 38 weeks (during school term time).

Safety and Security

Another reason is that you can rest assured knowing that your child is in capable hands. All nursery practitioners must undergo background checks and be qualified in looking after children.

Confidence

In meeting other young children and adults, your child will be able to develop confidence and early social skills.

Time Apart

If your child’s still very clingy and struggles to be away from you, nursery may not be a good option for them as they will be away from you for prolonged periods of time. This can create unnecessary stress for both you and your child.

Bonding Time

The first few years of your child's life are so special and go fast. They will reach many developmental milestones during this time, and you may decide to not send your child to nursery so that you can be part of this.
