Creating a positive learning environment
Develop their independence
To promote learning, children need encouragement and the opportunity to do things for themselves. This can be tricky in reality as parents have a natural instinct to step in and help. Letting your child encounter problems however teaches them how to handle real life situations, tells them that they can do things for themselves and builds confidence. Of course, these should be in line with where they are in their development.
Reading fosters a love for learning
Reading should be a priority within the home as it improves a child’s English skills and comprehension. As they become proficient readers, they will have the means to carry out independent learning of their own and explore new topics.
Study zones
Children need a suitable environment for study so that they can give their homework and revision their sole attention. Ideally this should be a space that is free from noise and distractions, so a quieter part of the house with fewer devices such as TV’s and games consoles.
Rich stimuli
If you have a younger child, look to surround them with rich stimuli, such as new smells and items that will provide new sensory experiences that promote their cognitive development.
Love and attention
Lastly, what all children need is love and support from their parents. They need a safety net when things are difficult and a support system. While of course parents love their children dearly, communication is needed to let children know that you are there for them.
