Embrace Your geekness day is an annual celebration dedicated to embracing and honouring nerdy culture. On July 13th we're encouraged to proudly showcase our geeky interests, whether it's comic books, video games, science fiction, technology, or any other niche passion. It's a time to celebrate nerdiness in all its glory.

What Is A Geek?

I suppose to first understand embrace your geekness day, we must first know what it is to be a geek. And whilst, I'm sure there's lots of negative connotations you've heard over the years (I know I have) I'm going to give you the truth... The Oxford dictionary truth...

1. 1.a person who is knowledgeable about and obsessively interested in a particular subject, especially one that is technical or of specialist or niche interest."

So would you class yourself as a geek? Because I most certainely would!

History Of Celebrate Your Geekness Day

Embrace Your Geekness Day started back in 2006 when a spanish blogger brought a group of people together to celebrate their love for all things geeky. The first event actually began with a game of 300+ people playing human pacman, which sounds just as fun as it does stressful! What started as a local event quickly gained international recognition.

The date, July 13th, was chosen as it coincides with significant pop culture milestones like the release of the first Star Wars movie and the birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien, renowned author of The Lord of the Rings.

Embrace Your Geekness Day has since become a global phenomenon, with geeks of all kinds embracing their passions and proudly displaying their geekiness each year.

Why We Need To Celebrate Nerdiness

Embracing nerdiness is a celebration of individuality, passion, and intellectual curiosity. Nerd culture has contributed immensely to technology, literature, movies, and numerous other fields of knowledge. By celebrating nerdiness, we're celebrating diversity, breaking down societal stereotypes and embracing different interests.
