[AD] If you’ve been reading up on how you can support your child’s development, you will have heard about fine motor skills. They are the skills that we need to pick things up, grip our cutlery and press the keys of phones and other devices. They rely on the small muscle tissues of the hands, feet, and toes. The only real way to build them is through practice. If you’re looking for activities to help your child in this area, we have 5 for you below.

Activities to strengthen your child's fine motor skills
Play Dough
Play dough is a safe, child friendly material that can be used to create a number of things. They can pinch it, press it and mould it to create whatever they like. You can even create it yourself using recipes online. A good hack if your child is prone to losing things.
Lego
Next, we have Lego. Just like play dough, children can explore their creativity and artistic side. It requires a little more work to put together and dismantle but it will prove to be good practice for these particular skills.
Music
Many children take up music as it offers them a way to express themselves and do what they enjoy as it can be a lot of fun. For younger children, it can be a way for them to build and strengthen their fine motor skills as pressing, gripping, and holding is required. You don’t need to worry about breaking the bank as the instruments don’t need to be of a professional grade.
Water Fight
You can even help by having a water fight. In the summer and not-so-cold days, you can use water pistols to compete against one another.
Baking
Baking is a nice activity to do with children. You can help them to develop a passion for cooking/baking and promote their fine motor skills. They are needed to knead, whisk, pipe and for so many other baking responsibilities.

Lego is a great toy to help strengthen children's fine motor skills! When I used to work in schools, lego was used to improve these skills x
