AD. Wedding dress regret is something I personally feel very conflicted over. We've been happily married for almost five years now and although I love my bridal gown, there's something at the back of my mind whispering 'I'm not sure this was the one?' It doesn't help that every time I walk into the kitchen I'm greeted with photos of our big day.
Did I choose my dream dress? Am I overthinking? Let's take a deep dive into the sensitivity that is wedding dress regret.

Why I Feel Wedding Dress Regret.
My thoughts are conflicted when it comes to my bridal dress. When wedding dress shopping I knew it was the one as soon as I tried it on. I loved it. I still do. But the reason I chose my dress was based upon my body insecurities. I feel regret because I let my self doubt limit my choices.
2018 Claire felt highly self conscious of her arms. She felt they were disproportionate and didn't want to show them off on her wedding day. The most special day of her life at that point. She tried on full sleeve wedding gowns, and full sleeved gowns only. This was a non-negotiable for her.
2022 Claire couldn't give two hoots. After two pregnancies I appreciate what my body has done rather than what it looks like. Sure there's still that pang in the back of my mind, but it no longer dictates what I will and won't wear. I feel sad that my previous self couldn't see what I see today.
My wedding dress regret comes purely from the way I viewed myself at the time.
Top Tips On Avoiding Wedding Dress Regret.
Deciding on your wedding dress can be one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make. So let's take a look into how you can avoid feeling regretful.
1. Choose Your Consultation Guests Wisely.
I'd definitely say less is more when it comes to taking your bridal party wedding dress shopping. You've all heard of the term 'too many cooks in the kitchen' right? Wedding dress shopping is exactly the same. Make sure you take a concise yet trusted group of people with you to the bridal boutique. Ultimately the decision is down to you as the bride, but having those extra couple of opinions can really help.
2. Take ALL of The Photographs.
See your bridal fitting as a fashion shoot. You can so easily get wrapped up in the emotions of trying on wedding dresses. If you get your wedding party to take photos of each dress from a variety of angles it can really help solidify your decision. It will help you visualise the dress in a real life setting too.
3. Go Away And Think About It.
If things get overwhelming, or if you're already having second thoughts, you need to go away and have a breather. Your decision shouldn't be an erratic one, nor should it be made on a whim. Whether you go away and come back after a coffee, or take several weeks deciding on your dream dress, patience is a virtue.
4. Trust Your Gut.
They say that when you know you know when it comes to your wedding dress and I fully believe this to be true. There was something about my dress that as soon as I slipped it on, I knew it felt different. I knew it was going to be the one I'd be wearing on my wedding day. If you're trying bridal gowns on and find something you like, but don't love, I'd definitely regroup and keep looking.

Like I say, I do feel kind of regretful about my bridal gown choice, however this actually has very little to do with the dress itself and more how I felt towards myself. I'd like to think that in another 5 years time we'll renew our vows and have a 'second wedding day' during which I'll pick something a little different.
In fact, every aspect of the wedding is worth creating with care. Just like choosing a wedding dress that you will never regret, the decoration of the wedding scene cannot be sloppy. Do you have wedding dress regret? What style of dress would you / did you go for?

I totally know what you mean about pregnancy changing how you feel about your body, technically I have more things to feel insecure about now but I just don't, I actually like my body more! We're not married yet so hopefully when we do get married I won't let that affect it but I wouldn't know where to start on finding 'the one' I have no idea what I want!

I used to feel a little uncomfortable with the way my hands look, especially my upper back because they break out every now and then. But I don't care anymore really because I realise the insecurity made me miss out on pieces of clothing and the style I like. I'm happy now because I know when the time to get into the wedding gown comes, I'll choose based on what I like and not what I'll think would "work best". I try not to have regrets on stuff too haha đź’ž
So true. I certainly now regret spending so much energy on body issues. Absolutely not worth my time anymore.
I think it’s one of the things if you keep thinking about it. It will become worse and worse. So these are great things to follow.
These are some really helpful tips to avoid regret regarding your wedding dress. When me and my partner get married I will have to remember some of these tips. Thank you for sharing.

I have wedding dress regret too - but mine was all planned in such a rush I also think we will renew our vows for everyone to see at some point. It was a wedding of 10 people, so I'm not overly bothered. Maybe when we're 5 years married it would be nice.
I think your dress is absolutely beautiful and you look like an Angel. But only you know whether you have any regrets of it being “the one”. I think a lot of people probably feel this way, especially as our bodies and our tastes change over time! I think as long as you were happy at the time, that’s the main thing xxx
Thank you for being so honest about how you feel.
I am totally with you on the body confidence thing after children. Things I cared about before just don't even matter now. A whole maternity ward got involved in bodily functions and nakedness. Your mind is open after that.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful post. These are really great tips and I love the part about accepting your body more now than you did then. Still, I must say, that dress is absolutely beautiful and I would wear that in a heartbeat! Truly stunning!
I'm sorry that you feel wedding dress regret, your wedding dress is absolutely beautiful and you look amazing in it Claire! These are really great tips to avoid wedding dress regret x

I think one of the reasons of the regret is that the dress could be outdated few years from now. 10 for instance. Looking at dress in the mirror from all angles and pictures is a good idea. And definitely less is more. That way one would regret less, as per chances. Liked th tip. Xx
