[This article contains PR samples & PR invites]

The months seem to be going faster and faster don't they. I think it's the easing of lockdown restrictions and the feeling of life going back to semi-normality. I took lots of simple joys from April and this month is no different. Here are my 7 simple joys in May.

1. The circus came to town.

We were very luckily invited along to a PR showing of Paulo's circus this month. I've not visited the circus before, but it was just incredible. The show was amazing and there were lots of activities for my daughter to get involved in and enjoy.

Maybe the greatest thing however was the immense proud feeling I had seeing my little girls face light up, knowing that it's this little slice of internet that made it happen. PR events hit a little differently when your children get to enjoy them too.

2. We finally put our house up for sale.

I spoke last month about having our house valued. This month the for sale sign went up in our front garden. Woohoo! The ball is rolling and we'll soon be able to start looking for houses of our own. We've had a fair amount of interest in our house however nothing more concrete as of yet.

We're still feeling positive and are very much looking forward to the future in our new home... Wherever that may be!

3. I discovered healthy chocolate!

When I say healthy, don't take that as gospel. Chocolate is never going to be 100% healthy (booo) but what I have discovered is probiotic, gut friendly vegan chocolate from Ombar.

The gut friendly range comprises of three flavours, Strawberry Mylk, Coco Mylk or 72% Cacao. The strawberry was surprisingly my favourite, it's packed full of flavour whilst still having the usual chocolatey taste I'm accustomed to. If you ever needed more of an excuse to eat chocolate, this is it!

Ombar chocolate has got to be one of my simple joys in May.

4. Breakfast dates with friends.

Does anyone else prefer going out for breakfast, more than dinner or tea? I think going out for breakfast feels like so much more of a treat and for that reason, my visit to the Cosy Club in Leeds has to be one of my simple joys in May.

I indulged in a full cooked breakfast, something I would never do at home. Which was later followed with a dessert. Again something I would never do at home! This indulgent morning was definitely one of my favourites mornings for a long time. Even better that we were both child free!

5. Seeing friends kids together.

With lockdown measures eased we've have the chance to catch up with our friends much more this month. We've kept in touch quite well over the last year, however it feels like our children barely know each other.

They've all changed so much over the last year and it was just amazing to see them all playing together... Almost as if the last three lockdowns had never happened.

6. We booked a staycation!

After weeks of searching, we finally booked a staycation. As of Monday 7th June, my out of office will be going on & I'll be enjoying some much needed family time in the middle of nowhere.

I can't wait to embrace cottagecore life, have breakfast by the river & enjoy a bit of down time.

7. My daughters growth in confidence.

When lockdown restrictions started easing I was surprised by how unsocial our daughter was. She wouldn't play on toys other children had used, she let other kids push in front of her and she hated it whenever another child wanted to play with her. It was quite upsetting.

Towards the end of this month however she's really come into her own! She doesn't need my assistance and is quite happy to go off and do all the things that toddlers her age should be doing. She has the confidence to say 'no Mammy, I'm fine on my own' and as heartbreaking as that is, it's also just the best feeling!

Seeing my daughters growth in confidence at play parks has definitely been one of my simple joys in May.

    Hi Claire,

We should all be more grateful for the simple joys in life, rather than being caught-up in materialistic obsessions. And your post is a perfect example of such things.

Now, let's talk breakfast! A full cooked breakfast? Excellent choice, I'm with you on that one. Dessert? Dessert!?! For breakfast? That's a new one on me. I'm not completely discounting the idea, because I like a good dessert, but this is going to take some getting used to 😉

I think its been tough for kids during the pandemic. They may not pick up on everything, but enough to know that there is something going on and that they need to be careful. I think we all need some time to adjust as restrictions start to ease.

Good luck with the house move!! 🙂

Thank you! We're going to be moving back up to the North East where we're both from originally. We're in Leeds at the moment so it's not a million miles away. Aww thank you! She's come on so much! It's been lovely to witness. X
