[AD] Dreaming of a bigger home but haven’t got the funds to relocate? Making the most of the space you’ve already got is way cheaper than moving to a bigger house, so before you start to think about relocating, try to make the most of all the space you’ve got available by maximising the following areas:

How to maximise space in your home

Unused nooks

Chances are you’ll have a dozen unused nooks and crannies in your home. But awkward spaces like alcoves or the gaps under the stairs are actually ideal for putting smart storage solutions to help with home organisation. Move over Harry Potter, now you can be the one enjoying a wardrobe under the stairs.

Kitchen

A space for cooking, entertaining, and the base for the all-important family dinners, your kitchen should be the most versatile place in the house. But just because it has to be functional, doesn’t mean it can’t look stylish. Instead, adding vertical storage shelving in the pantry and hooks to hang mugs and bowls can quickly transform the space and have you maximising the kitchen area in no time.

Bathroom

Another functional room in the house, a small bathroom can be a lot of hassle to live with. But by making the most of previously unused areas (like the space over the toilet to install shelves, cabinets or a towel rack) you can soon create the illusion of a wet room with much more grandeur. Heads up, mirrors will also help you make the room look bigger.

Living room

A crowded living room is anything but relaxing. However, when you’re not blessed with the biggest winding-down space, it can be hard to create a nice zen area to relax. To make your living room look bigger, favour furniture with thin legs to give the room an open feel, and mount the TV above your fireplace or on the wall to save floor space.

Bedroom

Last but not least, the bedroom. This should be the most zen-like and refuge-from-the-world space of all. Quick fixes like ensuring your wardrobes are used properly will suddenly have you waking up rejuvenated in the morning; after decluttering your wardrobe, store out-of-season clothes under the bed, use organisers to separate your clothes, accessories and shoes, and tuck jewellery away in boxes and pouches. Floating shelves are also a great way to maximise your bedroom space and can even be used as a bedside table if you install them in the right place.

Before you jump the gun and start looking at bigger houses, try maximising the space you already have in your current home. With a few quick changes and a few smart storage solutions, you can soon transform your home - without having to completely remortgage!

Now that we have the baby, we have soo much stuff everywhere. I am a storage girl, if I can pack things away so they can't be seen when people come over, I'm happy!

We turned the unused space under the stairs in our hall into a shoe cupboard - it's brilliant, no more mucky footprints trailing through the house! Hadn't thought about the bathroom though, good tip! x

I have a similar post going live soon (funny that this happened to both of us recently haha!) These are great tips. I hate clutter - absolutely HATE it. It makes me really agitated. Unfortunately, my partner is someone who rarely throws things away and has so much crap so I can't wait until we move into our house this year where we actually have room to put things and I don't have to stare at his sh*t all the time haha.

I'm so happy we opted for a bed that fits boxes underneath for storage, it's a lifesaver!
