5 Conservatory interior ideas I'll be DIYing ASAP.

[AD] We've been living in our house now for just over eight months and slowly but surely we're making our house into a home. With Summer (hopefully) just around the corner our main project is the outside space and conservatory. We've not had a garden so big before, nor have we had a conservatory. So we want to transform the spaces to the best of our abilities but also as affordably as possible. After scouring Pinterest and using my background in interior design I've come up with a plan of action to update our conservatory. Here are the conservatory interior ideas I'll be using to (hopefully) make the space look amazing!

Conservatory interior ideas

At the moment I would describe our conservatory to be dated and basic. Two words I'd also use to describe myself! Haha. It's a functional space and more than liveable, but it's not quite to out taste. In fact it's no where near our interior style at the moment. Thankfully I've got plenty of design ideas to make it that way.

Lighting

Although we have a relatively small conservatory the space is still absolutely flooded with light. This doesn't mean however we should forget about lighting.

I currently have two cage lights from Elesi waiting to go up. They have an industrial feel to them with brass metalwork and a black cage structure around the bulb. I love industrialised interiors although if I'm honest I never really envisaged it for my conservatory. Once I saw these lights however I fell in love. And now basically all my conservatory interior ideas centre around our fabulous lighting.

Along with this style of lighting I'll of course be introducing matching switches and plug sockets. We currently have gold lights (that are broken) with brass switches and white plastic plug sockets. It's a mad mix of finishes and I'm not here for it. I can't wait to have everything in unison.

Flooring

For me the flooring is the biggest eye sore in our conservatory. It's tiled, it's patterned green and it's very very dated. We currently have a huge jute rug trying to cover it, but I think we're failing. You can't polish a turd right?

I'm torn between laminate or a funky patterned vinyl. I've seen a fabulous kaleidoscope print one which I can't quite stop thinking about. Everything in me wants to be brave and do something different, but I can't help coming back to laminate. A classic dark wood would work brilliantly in the space and would definitely stand the test of time compared to vinyl.

Be funky and brave or sensible and classic, that's the question. What would you go for?

Walls

We have a classic conservatory with is mostly UPV and glass. We don't actually have that much wall space. In order to keep costs down I'd like to stick up some PVC panelling. It's affordable, easy to install and can quickly make a huge difference in transforming an interior space.

I'm sure some of you have shuddered at the thought of PVC panelling, but I think when it's done correctly it can actually look really visually impactful.

I'll be opting for concrete effect boards with black trims to pull everything together. This will compliment the lighting as well as the flooring - No matter which option I go for.

Furniture

As the interior space in our conservatory is only relatively small I think it's really important to make the right decision with our furniture choices. The last thing I want to do it overpower the space by adding furniture that's ill proportioned.

I currently have a nursing chair and foot stool in there which will be staying. It's so comfortable I can't bear to say goodbye. We then have space for either two separate chairs or a small snuggle style sofa. I'm inclined to go for two separate chairs, that way they can be easily moved around the space if needs be.

I'm also inclined to look at summer and winter garden furniture. As it's a transitional room it'd be handy to incorporate biophilic interior design and bring the outdoors in. Perhaps even using the same style of furniture outdoors to that in the conservatory.

Blinds

At the moment we have roller blinds in the most horrible shade of yellow imaginable. I'm actually half tempted to pull them down and have nothing until we find something we like. They're that bad!

Unfortunately due to the hexagonal shape to the conservatory I'm pretty sure we'll have to go bespoke with our blinds. I say unfortunately, because usually as soon as you add bespoke onto something it doubles the price! It's the same as weddings! I want to incorporate natural materials so will more than likely go for venetian or a wicker roller blind. Bringing the outdoors in is quite important throughout my home, but especially in the conservatory. By using natural materials I'll definitely be achieving this.
