We decided a little while ago that we wanted to move house and reside a little closer to our families. With our daughter growing quicker than we can imagine & finding out that I'm pregnant again, we'd love to move sooner, rather than later. This meant thinking of ways we could improve our house to sell.

5 Mindset changes to improve a house to sell.

I wanted to speak of mindset changes when it comes to improving your house to sell. This is because there are a lot of different factors which come into selling a house.

• Type of house.
• Reason for selling.
• Budget.
• Available time.

There are various ways you can create a visual impact with Interior Design. However I wanted to generalise how you could improve a house to sell simply by changing your mindset about it all. Moving house can be super stressful so If you can make the process of moving easier just by changing your mindset, I think it'll be so beneficial.

1. Make a list.

We began our home improvement journey by making a list. A list was compiled for jobs that needed to be done in each room. Luckily for us we only have a two bedroomed house so there wasn't that many lists, however what was on there was pretty extensive.

The jobs looked pretty daunting. The lists were considerable, although it's wise to know that every single little improvement detail was on there. Some were the kind of jobs that could have only taken twenty minutes. But also the kind of jobs we put off for years.

We have a list for each room pinned upon the door entering that particular room. I find this acts as a gentle reminder & kick up the bum to do the jobs that need doing. I do a similar thing when I'm trying to save money, I have a list of all my expenditures fixed on the fridge. I find this reminder works wonders & really spurs me on for improvement.

2. Declutter to help improve a house to sell.

One of the first things I started doing when we began speaking about moving house was decluttering. We seem to have accumulated quite a bit of stuff since buying our house. Not to mention with the addition of a toddler and a bump. We've got all sorts! And I'm a hoarder! I'll also hide things at the back of cupboards or drawers, anywhere I could possibly find to make my house 'appear tidy'.

Decluttering is also great for making a little bit of money. I've used the likes of Facebook Marketplace & Ebay to make money on things that have been sitting unloved at the back of wardrobes.

3. First impressions count.

I'm a firm believer that first impressions count. I remember when we fist viewed our house just knowing that it was the one. We parked a little down the road & I said to my husband before viewing the property that I was already getting all of the good vibes.

That being said, something I would like to change is our front door & the first impression our entrance gives. Our front door is a classic white PVC however there are some rather skeptical coloured beads set within the glass. They reflect rainbows into the house which my daughter loves, but I really can't stand them.

With that I'd be more tempted to dress the front of our house properly with nice potted plants or maybe even a wreath on the door.

4. Forget that it's your home.

I feel like this one kind of goes against the grain, especially when you've spent so long transforming your house into a home. Essentially though you're selling your house to become somebody else's home. As a new buyer it's difficult to imagine somebody else's home being your own when it's so personalised.

We for example have a lot of 'toddler memorabilia' around our home. This isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. To be honest our home isn't really a family home, it's a space suitable for young first time buyers either in a couple or as a single person. It'd be more beneficial for us to advertise our home this way. This means popping our daughters things into storage & letting our viewers imaginations run wild with what they could make the space into.

5. Trust the process.

I'm pretty impatient, especially when it comes to something I really want. Selling our home and moving back to be closer to family has been at the forefront of our minds for the last six months or so. That's not to say we're in a rush though.

We both feel that when the time is right, everything will align. We've got to believe that when we sell our home we will be presented with the perfect house in our desired location. We're trusting the process that when the time is right, everything will just fall into place. We just need to be ready when it happens.
