Summer Hair Trends For 2026

1. 70's Glam Rock

If you've not heard of Daisy Jones & The Six, I'd be very surprised! And if you've been watching the Amazon Prime series, you'll know each episode is packed full of iconic 70's glam rock fashion and hairstyles. As with numerous 'on trend' series their fashion trends are passed down to us normal folk, and I'm betting the 70's glam rock hair from Daisy Jones & The Six will be no different. Think shaggy cuts, thick texture and tousled waves. This summer hair style emphasises volume and offers us a chance to embrace natural texture in our hair. Air drying with a texturising mousse is a great way to dip your toes in with this trend.

Best for: Medium to long hair with natural movement
Styling tip: Air dry using a texturising mousse for a lived-in finish.
Maintenance level: Low to medium

2. Shaggy Bangs

Bangs are notoriously difficult to look after. A great way of making them easier to work with however is by opting for a shaggier, more texturised cut. Plus you'll be following on of the great summer hair trends of the year! Shaggy bangs tend to suit any hair length from short bobs to long textured tresses. This hair refresh is a bang on hair trend bound to have you feeling your rock chick best this summer.

Best for: Most face shapes and hair lengths
Styling tip: Use a round brush and texture spray rather than aiming for perfectly smooth styling.
Maintenance level: Medium

3. Voluminous Volume

A lot of the summer hair trends for 2023 focus on era's of the past, and this one is no different. Let's go back to the 60's this time and embrace the big hair realness of Bridgette Bardot and Jane Fonda. Volume and big bouncy blow drys never go out of fashion. There's nothing more confidence boosting than big hair, so why not give this trend a go. Overnight heatless curls are a great way to start (and very Tik Tok trendy right now) but you could opt for rollers or treating yourself to a bouncy blow at your local salon.

Best for: Medium to long hair
Styling tip: Finish with lightweight hairspray to hold volume without stiffness.
Maintenance level: Medium

4. Tousled Top Knot

Up-do's don't have to be perfectly polished. You could argue that the messier the better (we all know I'm a fan of the messy mum bun), but for sure the easier they are to create the more preferable they are. Start by securing a high pony before sectioning off into parts. Twist each of the two sections around the pony to create volume and the appearance of an easy tousled top knot. Once complete pull two small sections of hair away from the face and use a curling iron to frame the face.

Best for: Medium to long hair
Styling tip: Curl front pieces lightly to frame the face.
Maintenance level: Low

A blunt bob is one of the more versatile hair trends of the year.

5. Blunt Bobs

The sharpness of the blunt bob is second to none when it comes to summer hair trends. It's a sleek, minimalistic look which oozes sophistication. And bonus for you short haired girls out there, it's really easy to maintain! This style looks equally as impressive super straight and sleek as it does texturised and curled. It's a really great, versatile look which is sure to see you right through the summer months.

Best for: Fine to medium hair
Styling tip: Add a shine spray for a sleek finish.
Maintenance level: Low

6. Face Framing Braids

Face framing braids are a Y2K inspired trend swarming influencers instagrams right now. Taking inspiration from boho styles of the past this summer hair trend features two braids starting either from the hairs parting or just above the ears. This effortless, whimsical style adds a touch of femininity which compliments both floaty summer dresses and more grungy festival looks. Face framing braids are best achieved with mid to longer length hair styles and can be styled with loose waves or your hairs natural texture for a more care free look. You can enhance this style with floral clips or gold or silver rings to create an up to date, on trend hair style.

Best for: Medium to long hair
Styling tip: Leave the braids slightly loose for a softer look.
Maintenance level: Low

7. Perfectly Coiled Curls

Coiled curls embrace well defined, healthy looking, shiny curls. Creating volume and texture, this summer hair trend offers versatility in styling options. Spiralled curls in particular portray a bold look and one that's perfect for summer 2023. This trend can be achieved with different hair lengths however it looks particularly impressive on shorter styles. A chopstick curling wand is essential to achieve this look. Be sure however to not forget your heat protection spray.

Best for: Naturally curly hair or styled curls
Styling tip: Always apply heat protection before using curling tools.
Maintenance level: Medium

8. 70's Mullet

Who'd have thought it, but mullets are making a come back! Not me, that's for sure, but here we are. The mullet is defined by shorter hair on the top and sides of the head with longer hair at the back. This contrasting length has made a rebellious comeback in recent months and shows no sign of going anywhere. It's the perfect cut for summer! What's so brilliant about this style is that is can be as subtle or as exaggerated as much as you like. This hairstyle is daring and modern, perfect for those looking to make a statement this summer.

Best for: Thick hair with texture
Styling tip: Texture spray helps maintain shape.
Maintenance level: Medium

9. Pretty Pixie Cut

The pixie cut is a timeless and versatile hair trend that suits so many! It's a short, choppy style which emphasises facial features, creating a bold and chic look. It's a low maintenance style (obviously perfect for summer) with an effortless get up and go type attitude. A pixie cut can make a statement, but it can also be a really pretty, feminine style. It's also the type of cut which is asking for a bit of colour, a pastel pink or purple would look amazing for festival season.

Best for: Fine to medium hair
Styling tip: Use a lightweight styling cream for texture.
Maintenance level: Low

10. A Slicked Back Low Pony

Slicked back hair is brilliant in summer. Not only does it discourage perspiration around the face, but it's a really on trend look which is suitable for so many. Hair should be gathered at the nape of the neck, secured by an elastic before smoothing down with hair wax or hair spray. It suits various hair lengths however the longer the hair, the more impressive the hair style. Think Arianna's classic pony, but lower. The low placement of the ponytail provides a refined an elegant look, a brilliant juxtaposition to more casual fashion trends we're seeing through influencers and the high street.

Best for: Medium to long hair
Styling tip: Smooth flyaways using a toothbrush and hairspray.
Maintenance level: Low

I am glam rock all the way this year! At least until I'm allowed to cut the top of my head again. It's gotten much too long already, and I have to keep it like this until March 2024! I also can't wait to bleach it and slap a colour in it to brighten it up a bit! Again, have to wait until after March. Woe is me if I 'ruin' my sister's wedding.

I'm due a major hair change but I'm getting married this year so I've avoided getting a cut, but after my wedding I'm definitely contemplating saying good-bye to the length and doing something similar to the blunt bob image you used

I love how easy and versatile updos are that is why I always have mine in ponytails. The top knot would probably be my summer go-to hairstyle to combat the heat.

It seems like a whole lot of old school hair styles are coming back. I think that is great especially the pixie cut and curls.

I'm a big fan of topknots, especially when I'm gardening! And I'm also mulling getting my hair cut shorter - probably a lob rather than a bob, but something to take the weight off this summer - lovely post, full of great suggestions! x
