Living in an apartment comes with some benefits, like being close to the middle of the city centre and perhaps cheaper rent, but at the same time it also brings various costs. You don't have the same experience as if you were living in a family home in suburbia with all the space and community. So, what can you do to make sure that your lifestyle in your apartment is right? How do you make good decisions? Let's take a look at apartment living the right way.

Apartment Living The Right Way
1. Find An Apartment That Suits You
You want to start the process by finding an apartment that really suits you. Make sure that your rent is no more than 30% of your gross income and factor in additional necessary expenses like utilities and internet. Don't take an apartment without visiting it first. While it might look good online, you can have a completely different feeling in person. Many real estate consultants are very good at making apartments look larger and more modern than they actually are.
2. Maximise Your Space
The next priority is to maximize your space. Your apartment is probably relatively small, so make sure that you use innovations like multi-purpose furniture for space. Ottomans are great for storage while sofa beds can convert from being somewhere that you sit in the evening to somewhere that you go to sleep at night.
If you can go vertically and install things like removable shelves and over-the-door organizers, then that's also helpful. Hanging racks on the back of doors reduces the amount of space you need for things like coat hangers and shoe racks.
3. Outsource Some Functionality
It's also a nice idea to outsource some of the functionality of your home to third parties. For example, if you don't have space for a utility room in your apartment, then it can be nice to use a laundry shop nearby to take care of your clothes. You can arrange with them when to pick them up and drop them off every week so you always have fresh supplies.
You might also use self storage instead of cupboards and shelving. Again, this saves you lots of space while providing you with access to your belongings when you need it.
4. Make It Feel Like Home
Another way to do apartment living right is to make it feel more like a home, even if you don't have the space you normally would to do everything you want to do. You can still implement little touches here and there that transform how the space feels.
For example, you could layer your lighting by adding sconces and floor lamps to your rooms. These can make it feel cozier. You could also use portable decor that you can move from one apartment to another if you change rentals regularly. Little touches like these help to make any place you stay feel like home.
5. Stay Organised
Finally, make sure that you stay as organized as possible in your apartment. Enacting a weekly declutter habit can be extremely beneficial, especially if you're living with other people.
