[AD] Restrictions in your rental agreement may prevent you from turning your bedroom into the space of dreams, but that doesn't mean you can't put your own stamp on it. There are many ways you can make your space perfectly personal without getting into trouble with your landlord. With rental property it's about thinking outside of the box, working with what you have and getting creative. The following tips on how to decorate your bedroom in a rental property will leave you blown away with your sleepy space of solace.

How to decorate your bedroom.

Add an elaborate mirror.

Adding an elaborate, statement mirror is a really easy way of transforming your bedroom space. An interior designer would probably tell you to go big or go home when it comes to adding a mirror, but I'd definitely have a think about the available space and how you want it to be reflected in your mirror. Big ornate frames can look amazing in bigger bedrooms, however there's still something really punchy about a slick frameless design. If you have a small bedroom in your rental property, the latter may be the better option to go for.

Remember to lean your mirror against the wall rather than hang - You want to stay in your landlords good books!

Hang fairy lights / bunting.

A really quick way of adding personality to your bedroom decor is with wall hangings. In most rental properties landlords forbid permanently securing anything the walls, so an easy way to get around this is by draping lights or bunting across furniture. These two options add colour and interest to your bedroom without going against your contract agreements.

Go wild with Washi tape.

Of Japanese origin, washi tape seems to be everywhere right now. A lot of people use it in their stationery kits, however because it's easy to use and remove it's a great way to spruce up the bedroom in our rental property. You could use the tape to personalise any furniture. If there's existing picture frames in your bedroom, covering them with washi tape would be a brilliant way of adding personality and interest. You could create a gallery wall, using the tape to fix multiple prints to a wall. Or if you're feeling particularly arty, you could even create a geometric pattern using the tape to create a feature wall. With many different colours and patterns of washi tape available, I'm sure you'll easily find something to fit your colour scheme.

Add a statement headboard.

If the bed frame in your rental accommodation isn't quite to your taste, you could make it more 'you' with a statement headboard. Fixing a statement headboard to the bed will pack a punch design wise whilst also being rental property friendly. There are so many different sizes and styles available, I'm sure you'll easily find something that's perfect for your space.

Invest in amazing bed linen.

Bed linen can massively change the appearance of your bedroom. Go thick and textured and you're able to create a cosy, comfortable space of solace. Go for something brighter and more charismatic and you'll set the tone for a really fun, inspirational interior space. Bed linen is something not to be underestimated when it comes to decorating your bedroom. You could say it's a deal breaker!

Make it personal

A misconception with rental properties is that they're bland, boring and you can't make them your own. A brilliant way to add personality to your interior space is with a custom neon light. www.neonfilter.com have a fantastic easy to use system where you can make something super personal and bespoke to your home. Renter friendly kits are available where the sign mounts to a smooth surface, meaning no power tools are needed at all. Phewie!

Cover the floor.

If the flooring in your room isn't quite something you'd usually go for, the only way you can transform it is by covering it! There's no other way to get around it in a rented property. Opting for a rug, or even a couple of rugs depending on how big your bedroom is the best way to transform the floor space. Finding something that matches both your wallpaper and the existing flooring whilst still being to your taste may be quite difficult, however if you get it right it'll make the world of difference.

Display nick nacks.

Decorating shelves with personalised nick nacks will most definitely make your bedroom look a little less rental and much more 'you'. We all have little trinkets we've collected over the years so why not show them off and give your home decor some of your wonderful personality. It'll also make a feature of your storage solution too.

Change door handles.

One of my favourite decorating ideas when it comes to making a subtle yet substantial change is by adding new door handles. Granted interior doors in a rental property may be a little more difficult to change, but things like cupboard doors or drawer handles with one or two screws can be more easily changed.
