How Does OpenTable work?

OpenTable can either be used via desktop or by downloading free from the app store. It's a very user friendly, easy to figure out system, but let me tell you a little more about it.

We were given a pretty extensive restaurant list to choose from for our evening meal. I was really pleasantly surprised! There was everything from British cuisine to Thai to Italian. We had a big decision to make! In the end we decided to reserve a table at The Blackwell Ox Inn in Stokesley. The country styled pub had actually been on our radar for a little while now. I remember friends telling us about it when we moved back to the North East. We decided it was fate and hop-footed it down.

Our Meal at The Blackwell Ox

We had a wonderful meal at The Blackwell Ox! Although they do serve some English dishes, we wanted to fully immerse ourselves into the experience and ordered Thai food. After all, it's what The Blackwell Ox is famous for around here.

Here's what we ordered from the Blackwell Ox Menu:

Starters

To begin our dining experience with OpenTable we decided to push the boat out and opt for three starters. We chose Thai prawn crackers, served with sweet chilli sauce, Tempura king prawns and salt and pepper chicken wings.

I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest prawn fan usually (it's my husband who chose them) but these were delicious! They were so meaty and the tempura batter was just perfection! I don't think I've ever ordered prawns in a restaurant before, but I'd definitely go back for these.

The chicken wings were also probably the best wings I've ever eaten. When we lived in Yorkshire there was a takeaway near to us which sold *chefs kiss* chicken wings (I still miss them), but these from The Blackwell Ox Inn beat them! They were incredible!

Main Course

I knew from the get go I wanted to have crispy duck as part of my main course. It's something I never cook, but something I always enjoy if we go out to eat anywhere... And this was no exception! I chose to have mine served with leeks, onions, mushrooms and spring onions and it was just to die for! The only problem was, was the portion size! I couldn't finish it! Although luckily for us The Blackwell Ox do takeaways, so I was able to take the rest home to have for dinner the next day.

My husband chose prawns again for his main course. He opted for battered king prawns in a red Thai curry sauce. Although very similar to the starters this was still really enjoyable. Perfect for him, but a bit too hot for me (although I'm a wimp when it comes to spice).

Desserts

At this point we were both stuffed to the brim. Neither of us could finish our main courses, so we were toying between ordering desserts or not. Then we remembered desserts go into a different place in your stomach so we went ahead and ordered anyway. YOLO.

We both chose the lightest option available. Ice cream! It's never something I'd usually go for, I'm a sticky toffee pudding girl through and through, but because of the heatwave and the feeling of being almost ready to pop we decided that ice cream would be best!

The Blackwell Ox Inn serve Movenpick ice cream which in my opinion is the best ice cream around! I worked in a restaurant when I was sixteen and used to regularly dip my spoon into the troughs of deliciousness! we each had two scoops, one vanilla and the other caramelita! Oooh the caramelita takes me right back! It was so delicious.

Is The Blackwell Ox Worth Visiting?

The Blackwell Ox is well worth a visit if you enjoy Thai food and a relaxed pub dining setting. It’s the kind of place that works so well for a casual midweek meal, just as much as it does for a celebratory get-together with friends or family. It's brilliant!

Food-wise and from my experience the Thai curries and noodle dishes have been the standout dishes. Everything is so flavourful, served piping hot and generously portioned. We've visited a few times now, and I have to say, we've always come home with a takeaway box to finish the next day.

The atmosphere is informal and welcoming, with a steady buzz of trade that gives it a lively but comfortable feel, rather than anything overly formal. Service is excellent, the staff members are all really attentive, even at busier times. I actually don't think there's anything to fault!

Overall, it’s a fabulous choice if you’re looking for a reliable dining experience in the Stokesley area, particularly if you want something beyond standard pub fare without going into fine dining territory.
