AD. Personal growth is a lifelong journey that can be a challenging, yet rewarding process. There is no right or wrong way to explore how you can enrich your life through self-development and self-growth.

Whether it be morally, physically, intellectually or maybe all of these, personal growth is the result of the efforts you make to improve yourself. Life could forever change and so why wouldn’t you want to make changes? You don’t need to have a big life event or a ‘big’ birthday. The purpose of personal growth is to improve your habits, behaviour, reactions or your actions.

Some examples of personal growth could be:

  • Learning to overcome procrastination
  • Learning to control anger
  • Learning to break a bad habit
  • Allocating time to be there for your body with exercise and a healthy, nutritional diet

Everyone’s journey of personal growth is different, but there are certain steps you take to help your personal development.

A quote on personal growth.

Steps to help you achieve personal growth.

1. Get creative

Creativity promotes self-awareness, which is beneficial for your personal growth and your development. You don’t need to be a skilled creative to reap the benefits of creativity. There are so many forms of creativity such as: writing, dancing, singing and painting to name but a few. Creativity is cathartic and can positively improve your life. It is also a great motivator because it makes people interested in what they are doing as well as giving the sense of achievement to everyone when you gain a sense of achievement it builds your confidence and self-esteem, leading to more positive benefits.

2. Make your health a priority

Wanting personal growth will require you to be committed and have a huge amount of self-discipline. You will need to recognise and prioritise what is good for you, rather than take the easiest option. You need to treat your body with care and respect and is a vital part of your personal development. Personal growth is a life-long journey that requires inner strength and endurance. Living a healthy lifestyle such as eating a balance diet, getting enough sleep, moving more and taking supplements will lead to many benefits such as positive self-perspective.

Physical health is at the core of personal growth and self-actualisation. When you are not physically well, it is hard to feel mentally and emotionally well and even harder to tap into the spiritual side or discover self-actualisation.

3. Continue your learning

No matter your age, having the ability and desire to learn is a powerful mindset as well as skills that can have a beneficial impact on various areas of your life, including your professional one. You don’t need to necessarily learn in the traditional sense of studying, but could be through listening or even on the job learning. However you choose to learn, it is a crucial aspect of personal growth and development.

Another important aspect of learning is listening. Listening is a powerful learning tool that can develop your interpersonal skills and relationships. Through listening to the experiences and opinions of others, you can expand your perception of the world. Programs like VoicePlace can also support your journey, especially if you're focused on strengthening communication and building inner confidence.

Learning a new skill or educating yourself on a topic can improve your personal development skills. Whether it’s an online webinar, reading a book, taking up a new hobby or signing up to an online course, your mind and perceptions will change and help you to build your skills.

4. Volunteer

There are so many volunteering opportunities where you can make a difference such as: homeless shelters, soup kitchens and other community projects where you can volunteer your time to help others. Not only will you be doing some good, but you will learn some new skills and gain valuable perspective. Helping others can also aid in your personal growth and development by growing your ability to empathise as well as expanding your world view.

5. Experience new things & places

Traveling can be a great way to gain perspective. Traveling helps to challenge your thought process, personal growth and even senses. There is so much you are yet to experience, so planning different visits can help you grow and enjoy yourself, which leads to happiness! You should always be open to try n things because you never know what you can learn or who you might meet. Where is one place that you would like to visit?

6. Evaluate

Self-awareness is something you need to practise in order to grow and develop. Taking time to reflect and ask yourself some questions can to help you evaluate your life. Questions such as:

  • What is your life like now?
  • What areas of your life are you happy with?
  • What areas of your life do you feel you need to improve?
  • What would you like your life to be like? How do you hope to improve yourself and why is it important to do so?
  • What is your timeline? How will you track your progress?

Once you recognise where you need to improve, you can make plans to do so. Creating change and self-growth requires you to take action, so you need to take small steps to improve your situation in life.

You are here for big things; you have a difference to make and a purpose to live. If you are unsure how to start living with purpose, you may have missed your personal growth journey. This journey helps you to explore your identity, talents, potential, dreams and aspirations. It will develop you physically, mentally, spiritually ad intellectually, so these 6 small steps will enable to you to start that journey.

Do you practise any of these steps? I’d love to hear in the comments.

All very nice tips! Nothing more to add!
But I need to make my health a priority! Really. I am a person who cares about others more than myself.
