Why I chose to co-author Meanings Over Milestones.

I recently let slip that I'm going to be co-author of a book. Hooray! Along with 60 other mums I'm telling my story and the message I want to pass down to my daughters in the book titled 'Meanings over milestones'. The book holds a very special meaning to both myself, the other authors & the founder Angharad Davies. Because of this and it being book launch day today (double hooray!) I wanted to tell you a little about why myself & my fellow authors chose to co-author Meanings Over Milestones.

Why I chose to co-author meanings over milestones.

My story in Meanings over Milestones is a journey of self confidence and self belief. It's not the hardest hitting of stories, but it's one which is sadly very common; And even more common amongst new mums.

I wanted to co-author Meanings Over Milestones to tell my story & explain that there is light at the end of the tunnel. You will get to a place where you're able to take a chance on yourself, and you will get to a place where you feel just as fearless in motherhood as you do being yourself.

Becoming a mum almost four years ago gave me a sense of urgency that sparked a deep need in me to finally and truly live the purpose I found the beginnings of almost two decades ago whilst volunteering in a paediatric hospital in Romania, which was to help children's emotional well-being.

I want to see a world where life meanings are just as important as life milestones to children, helping to build a happier, more resilient and emotionally connected generation.

I chose the power of story and mothers to bring my purpose to life. Publishing a book had always been a dream of mine and I knew that sharing stories of strength, vulnerability and life meaning would make such an inspiring read for mums everywhere. I was so fortunate to find so many mums who believed in my vision as much as I did. It's been an amazing journey and this is just the beginning.

I can't wait to see what the future brings for the book, the project and for how the profits from the book will help children the world over.

I was immediately captivated by the title Angharad chose for the book. I was excited to work alongside other women who share their love for being a mother. The story I shared in 'Meaning over Milestones', is a lot different than many of the writings I share on my blog. I don’t talk a lot about myself. However, in this post, I share a personal story of how low self-esteem held me back as a child and into my adult years. Taking the experiences of my upbringing, both positive and negative, helps me to discern how I can improve as a mother for my children. I think we have a responsibility to do this. And not just recognise what needs to change but to put it into action even when it might be unnatural for us. That brings meaning to motherhood.

I wanted to deliver a message to both my children and other Mum's children about releasing the simples. All too often we spend our lives striving for more, wanting to be better, have more . . .  Until the wheels fall off, and then what? My husband's journey with brain tumours taught us to realise and appreciate the simples - The sun that keeps shining, the waves that keep rolling in, the flowers that keep blooming.  We found peace, comfort and even happiness in these simple things, even when times were really hard and scary, it was the simples that gave us the most comfort.

I wanted to get involved with this book because of the central message of passing on life meanings to our children through stories. This connects with my purpose of inspiring people of all ages to live with courage, hope, love and joy. Angharad Davies has curated this project in such an inclusive way, building a community of women who have cheered each other on through the writing process. My story in Meanings over Milestones is about an unexpected conversation at the Taj Mahal in India, which made me realise I wanted to become a mum. I wanted to share this experience because it carries within it the message I most want to pass on to my daughter, Natalie - to commit before she feels ready.

I got involved with meanings over milestones for two reasons.The first being that I love to write and journal and have recently written a story in another book collaboration that was published in March this year. I wanted to take on more writing opportunities and also begin to write a couple of books of my own too. Also this is an amazing project to be involved in, some very inspiring and emotional stories that will bring some wisdom and inspiration to our children and their future. As a mum who is very much a work in progress, I am always keen to share my experiences with my daughters to save them from wasting time before learning some of the lessons which took me years and heartache to get to.
