Gosh, my second pregnancy seems to be flying! I'm now in my third and final trimester but today wanted to reflect upon my second trimester, second time around... Because there's lots of differences!

Differences in my second trimester, second time around.

1. Balancing being pregnant & being a Mum.

This pregnancy has been very different from my first. I spoke about a few differences in my first trimester, second time around post. The most notable challenge is being pregnant whilst running around after our two year old toddler. As much as it pains me, sometimes I have to say no to our daughter and acknowledge what my body can no longer do. Getting the balance right can be so difficult. Although I'm sure once the new baby is here it's going to get a hell of a lot harder.

2. Heartburn!

Oh my gosh, heartburn is back with a vengeance! During my last pregnancy I didn't feel it until my third trimester however second time around I've felt it much, much earlier. Heartburn isn't painful, for me its more annoying and uncomfortable. It can either come in waves or sit heavily on my chest for hours at a time. There seems to be no middle ground at the moment. They say heartburn is a sign of having a hairy baby. So let's see, because they way I'm feeling at the moment, I think I'm going to give birth to a gorilla!

3. The lack of midwife appointments.

I'm not sure if this is a Covid thing, or a second pregnancy thing, or a mix between the two, but I haven't seen my midwife for 17 weeks now. Luckily I have an appointment with her next week, where I believe visits will become a bit more frequent, however I still can't shake the thought that 17 weeks without seeing a midwife is such a long time! Thankfully I'm classed as low risk, although considering I'm now in my third trimester and I've only seen my midwife once it feels a little unsettling.

4. Understanding my body.

I'm much more aware this time around of the things my body can and can no longer do. In my second trimester, second time around I became much more understanding and forgiving to myself. It's a quality I'm hoping will carry on throughout my pregnancy and continue on through parenting two under three. I allow myself to rest when my body tells me to rest and I no longer push myself to my absolute limits. I've definitely learnt to cool it a little bit and my body is thankful for it.

5. The glory doesn't feel the same.

Second pregnancy problems, but I feel already this pregnancy hasn't had the glory in the same way my first did. Time feels like it's going so quickly that we've barely had a chance to process what's going on... Which sounds mad because in less than three months time we'll be a family of four. I spoke about this recently over on my Instagram account, but because we have so much going on outside of our second pregnancy, we both seem to have forgotten we're having another baby. Knowing we don't have long left as a family of three I want to spend my third trimester soaking up every inch of family life. I'm also going to be nurturing and really appreciating what my body is doing, before the madness starts.

My second trimester, second time around has been so much different to my first.

Are you pregnant again? Please tell me I'm not alone with point number 5! I can't lie, it does make me feel a little bit guilty and unappreciative. That being said, I'd rather be totally truthful, in the hope that my thoughts make someone else out there feel that bit more reassured if the feeling's mutual.

In the comments leave me some girls name's as inspiration. We're still clueless on names, so any inspiration would be very much appreciated!

    Hi Claire,

Whilst I'm not pregnant (you'd be worried if I was!) I do think that your feeling at point 5 are perfectly understandable. I think the pandemic, and its effects on us, means that we are all experiencing things in different ways than we are used to. I don't think that you have anything to feel guilty about.

Good luck with the birth of your gorilla 🙂 I'm guessing that you probably wouldn't want to go with Kong as a name so how about:
    Hope
    Faith
    Summer
    Imogen (Immie)
    Isabelle (Izzy)

I think COVID has had such an impact on everything, but I'm glad you have an appointment next week. I think names will come in time, and you'll find something perfect!

You look fab in your photos Claire! I think Covid has got to be the reason why you haven't seen your midwife as much lately, I think hospital appointments are so scarce now because of Covid and risk of infection etc x

You look amazing in the pictures Claire!! I think that appointments have been very scarce overall because of the pandemic, but glad that you’re getting to see your midwife next week! I am not a mom, but I have heard it plenty of times from relatives that the second time is much quicker! 🙂

I am loving your pregnancy content right now. I totally get that this pregnancy doesn't quite get the glory of the first but it's great that you're letting your body tell you when you need to slow down!

Yes! Number five has been a weird one for us - especially as we kept the news to ourselves for so long for a whole host of reasons. I also feel like there's an immense pressure to watch what you say about everything with pregnancy! xx

I’ve been pregnant three times and each time every single week and trimester felt so different, the first time it was easy, second time was hard and the third time was pretty easy too.

The midwife appointments lacked too, not even due to Covid but there is a real ‘you’ve done this before’ feel to it. Felt like no one cared the more I had
