What Are Marionette Lines?

The wrinkles located at the corners of your mouth are called marionette lines. The name comes from the fact that they look like strings attached to a puppet’s face. They are usually caused by ageing, but can also appear for other reasons, for example, when you are sick or have lost a lot of weight and your skin has lost its elasticity.

How Can I Get Rid of Marionette Lines?

Depending on many factors, such as current health, goals and expectations, severity of the problem, etc, you can decide on a surgical or non-surgical option to get rid of your marionette lines.

Surgical Options

Some of the surgical options to remove marionette lines include botox injections, chemical peels, laser treatment, and microneedling. However, the best technique to remove them is usually dermal filler

One of your best options of fillers is hyaluronic acid, which has increased in popularity thanks to its great features. During the procedure, hyaluronic acid is applied under the patient’s skin in the “problematic” areas.

In the case of marionette lines, hyaluronic acid is placed in the corner of your mouth. The best thing is that you can see the effects right away as it adds volume to your skin and smoothes out the lines. You can enjoy the effects of this skin treatment for six to twelve months.

Non-Surgical Options

If you are not ready to have plastic surgery, you can still reduce or even remove marionette lines. One method involves increasing your intake of vitamin C. You can also reach for a good wrinkle cream. Another great option is consuming an anti-inflammatory diet. All the mentioned things help your skin to produce collagen that increases the skin’s elasticity and reduces wrinkles.

In any case, the key to healthy skin is living a balanced and healthy life. Avoid cigarettes and alcohol as their consumption speeds up aging, and can reduce skin elasticity.

Another way to reduce the visibility of your marionette lines is strengthening the muscles of your face. Regular facial massages can improve the way you look. You can also try mewing techniques that strengthen your muscles and can radically improve your jawline, chin, and skin elasticity. Remember that if you decide on non-surgical methods, you need a bit more time to see the first results. Be sure that you are consistent and perform your exercises regularly.

Tbh I’ve been considering fillers and a bit of Botox lately to get rid of some new wrinkles, I don’t have marionette lines (yet) but honestly wouldn’t be against fillers to combat it if I do ever get them😅

I had no clue that these wrinkles had a name! I am not considering any kind of tweakments right now but I am aware that I look older (and more tired) because of mum life!

I had no idea that those wrinkles had a name of their own! I don't think I have the guts to have Botox or fillers in case it went wrong, but it's good that there are options out there! x
