Beauty: My Journey To Having Better Skin

I'm not that old but even at the age of 24 I've noticed my skin becoming quite dry and lacking it's usual peachy glow. I've been trying to improve my skins youthfulness over the last month or so & have noticed a huge difference, enough so that I recently posted a picture of my bare naked face on instagram as part of Megans' #ProjectBareAll

Water.
I read an article in the Daily Mail recently, stating in order to keep your skin dewy and hydrated you need to be drinking at least three litres of water a day - Around six small bottles. I was always aware the more water you drink they more hydrated your skin will be, but three litres seemed pretty unrealistic for me & my lifestyle. My problem is I'm a huge coffee snob, I love a good caffeine buzz and would pick coffee over water any day!.. After all, you can't dunk your Hobnobs into a glass of water can you? Over the past few weeks though I've made a conscious effort to include water more within my diet. I think it's helped with the weather being sooo red hot that I've been more tempted to pick up a glass of water rather than a coffee - And truth be told I've actually enjoyed it! As well as my skin feeling softer and more hydrated I've actually been feeling so much better in myself, I feel healthier, more awake & have a lot more energy.

Makeup.
As much as we all love makeup, we all realise it's really bad for our skin - Damn you makeup you beautiful thing!! I believe one of the worst things you can do for your skin is sleep in yesterdays makeup, in fact I did it this morning (Arghh!!) I went out dancing with the girls last night & forgot to take my makeup off when I got in - My skin this morning was just grose, it felt all tight and dry and not very nice at all! I try to wear makeup with a really light coverage but a day without makeup works absolute wonders!

No stress.
I'm really lucky in the sense that I don't particularly have any stress in my day to day life. Of course we all have those 'off days' at work but that's about it. Practicing yoga & meditation relaxes both you and your skin and I believe if you feel good on the inside, you'll look good on the outside - I'm sure that's a tag line for some kind of foodie product, but you know what I mean. I make sure I have at least one bath a week (I do shower too) and indulge with a fizzy bath bomb or some bubble bath. I love sinking in with a good book, I'm currently reading 'The Boy Who Sneaks In My Bedroom Window' which sounds creepy, but is actually amazing!

Moisturise.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturie! And the earlier the better! It's taken me a while to find a moisturiser that I really like and luckily for me, it doesn't break the bank - It's simple! I make sure I use it first thing on a morning (which actually makes it easier to apply makeup) and last thing at night before going to sleep.

Sun.
I know as soon as we get a glimmer of sunshine in Britain our wardrobes change in a flash, out come the short shorts& crop tops! Which is brilliant from a fashionistas point of view, but exposing your skin to the sun can be one of the most damaging things you could do. I think it's bizarre that applying sunscreen is something we never think to do in Britain even though we don't think twice when on holiday. Along with sunscreen I've been using the Elemis Tan Accelerator which basically prepares your skin for the sun, I've been using this for a wile now and simply cannot fault the product!

Sleep.
And lastly my favourite of all!.. Catching those Z's!... They do call it 'Beauty Sleep' after all! When you go peeps your skin renews itself so not getting those eight hours can result in dark circles and basically tired looking skin. Luckily though there's a really easy way to solve this one, get yourself in your jim jams & curl up in bed!

I hope you've enjoyed my pointers to looking after your skin - Out of all of them drinking more water has made the biggest difference in my life! Such a simple & easy thing to do but it makes the world of difference.

Thanks for taking a look. Lots of love.

  1. I don't drink enough water, don't get enough sleep and wear far, far too much make-up so I'm probably a lost cause! Your skin looks amazing though, well done you :)
